Meet The New Boss, Better Than The Old Boss

We took a trip up to London yesterday, for the first time in ages - well, years in fact. The primary purpose was to visit the Proud Gallery Ossie Clark exhibition, along with Mother and The Brother. Before that though, we had a wander - which gave me an opportunity to try out my new camera - a Nikon D600 with a 24-70 f/2.8 lens. We took the DLR to Canary Wharf, took some photos around there and then walked down to the river, under the Thames via the tunnel and to Greenwich. I reckon the last time I was there was about 35 years ago - the Isle of Dogs has changed a little! At the Royal Maritime Museum we took in their Ansel Adams exhibition. Some seriously gorgeous prints - the first time I've seen originals of his. The large print of "Clearing Winter Storm" was just fantastic. Afterwards, we headed over to Chelsea to see the exhibition - my dad's four...

We went to see Richard Hawley at the Colston Hall in Bristol last night - I'm not that familiar with his music, but have liked the bits that SWMBO has played, and got tickets on the basis that she'd like to see him. Oh boy, what a good decision that was - a really good concert, and the loudest I've been to for a while. It's sort of hard to describe his music, they're often really nice gentle love songs but with searing guitar solos and occasional interludes of fantastic guitar and bass noise. One of the better gigs I've been to, and even better because it was a pleasant surprise. Thanks to the really rather good Ents24 website, I was very on the ball with regard to tickets, and we were in the middle of the front row of the balcony - a great view. We went for a wander round Westonbirt Arboretum this afternoon, and it just seemed like a monochrome kind of day*. Most of these have been converted using one of the Lightroom presets, but I like the dark, heavy contrasty look. I also took the panoramic pinhole camera and used a roll of Ilford B&W, so very much a B&W day. * Apart from the one I've left in colour!...
