Spring 2021

It would appear that I didn't blog any photos during 2021 - OK, I didn't take a lot (actually the fewest in a year since I switched to digital), but I do have some to share. I'll share three sets here from Spring 2021. First up are images from a stroll round parts of Westbury-on-Trym in March - down the side of Henbury Golf Club, and then to the church in Westbury-on-Trym village. These are all on film - my dad's old Pentax MX 35mm and my new Ondu Panoramic Pinhole camera, also 35mm. The colours in the panoramic pinhole aren't great, but in my defence it was the first roll of C41 I'd developed. The second set are from an April visit to Abbey House Gardens in Malmesbury, Wiltshire - somewhere I have visited many times over the years, but usually for their clothes-optional days. This was a "normal" visit - I wanted to go earlier in the year than usual, and also...

Bristol 2018

My most obvious subject! Working right in the centre of the city and very close to the Harbourside, I do take a lot of photos of Bristol. HarboursideGetting out of the office for a bit of fresh air naturally takes me to the Harbourside, so I've taken a lot of photos of this area this year. I've also found that it's possible to walk right round the harbour, up to Cumberland Basin and back to Prince Street Bridge, in my lunch hour. I've only done it with the phone so far but must try it with something a bit more serious at some point. So we have some shadows, a bit of the remaining industrial side of the harbourside - the steam crane is an absolute favourite of mine and I must get out and shoot it with the large format camera - and a shoot late in the year around the refurbished Metro Bus bridge and nearby. SS Great BritainI'm occasionally involved...

Bristol Harbourside and Suspension bridge

I forgot to post these with the others - we also had a wander round the harbourside at Cumberland Basin and then went up to the Suspension Bridge and the Camera Obscura - something I've managed not to visit in the 17 years I've lived in Bristol. The Camera Obscura, not the Bridge. The Camera Obscura is for sale if you've got a couple of million quid to spare. There may be some overlap with  the harbourside shots I took in March, so apologies for that....

Cumberland Basin

Today was the first trip out with the full new camera kit - yesterday I traded in the D200 and lenses and picked up a Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 lens to go with the 24-70 f/2.8. I headed down to Cumberland Basin in Bristol and took some pretty industrial stuff - photos that turned out really nicely in black and white. I started off around the Floating Harbour/Avon locks, then headed along the Portway where there are a couple of old jetties that are decaying rather nicely. Finally, just by Bridge Valley Road, there are a couple of old bits of rail tunnel that have been blocked up. There are quite a lot here, but I took 300 shots today and I like what I've got. I'm not sure if it's the D600 or the high-spec lensesthat's made the difference  (probably both) but these shots are really crisp and sharp. Liking the new kit. ...
