As I had a random day off, we headed out to Hauser & Wirth in Somerset. We had discovered that their current exhibitions had finished the Sunday before, but we went anyway to see their other galleries and their grounds. To start with, the other galleries and the main shop were closed as the space was being used for bits & pieces while they took down the exhibitions - which meant that there was pretty much nothing to see.About the only thing there was a couple of Don McCullin originals - his landscapes. On sale for a mere £8250 plus framing plus VAT. But there were still the gardens (designed by Piet Oudolf), which were actually quite nice. There's an odd modern building at the top of the garden though - you'd think something like that would be quite out of place in a rural setting like Hauser & Wirth but it doesn't grate and it is photographically quite interesting - its's...

Weston-super-Mare

Despite having lived in Bristol for almost 20 years, I think I've only been to Weston once before. Last week I got together with a couple of old photography friends (we met on a course at the Watershed back in about 2001) and went down to Weston for the day to catch up and take a few photos. I quite enjoyed the traditional seaside resort ambience, a week or two before the main summer holidays begin so it wasn't horribly busy. First Cricket Shots

Back in the 1980s I spent entire summers at the County Ground in Northampton watching cricket, and in 1986 I started taking a few photos - eventually leading to the hobby I have now. These are my first cricket photos, taken with my dad's compact camera - I didn't move on to action photos until I got my first SLR in 1987 and borrowed his 300mm lens. There are some big names, so not a bad start - legendary West Indies stars Clive Lloyd, Joel Garner and Viv Richards, as well as a certain Ian Botham. The Garner/Richards/Botham shots were taken at Northants' annual trip to play at Wellingborough School. In the Sunday League match, Botham (just back from a ban after he admitted smoking marijuana) hit 175no including 12 4's and 13 6's - remember that these were 40 over matches, and he only batted for 27 of them! OK, the ground was very small, but it was probably the most amazing innings I saw.  ...
